the british connection?

A self-proclaimed Anglophile, Jess spent her last semester of college in London. Still seeing her study abroad experience as the “best decision I ever made,” she has fond memories of enjoying a spot of tea daily with her host mum, mastering the Tube, treasure hunting at Portobello Market, and of course, shopping the high street.

about high street

Enjoy a customized shopping tour with Fashion Editor Jess James in an authentic vintage London cab. The British Taxi, based in Wilmington, owns the largest fleet of London cabs in the U.S. David Beckham arrived in style at the launch of his H&M collection in Times Square in one of the British Taxi’s very own cabs. And, now you & your friends can do the same. Cheers to that!

Jess James is a freelance fashion editor, stylist, and publisher of FASHION FIX. She launched her “Style Girl” brand in 2005 after her long-running newspaper column where she established herself as Wilmington, NC's "fashionable friend”- sharing style secrets, season essentials, emerging designers and her favorite vintage haunts.

Before moving South, Jess worked in PR / Special Events coordinating fashion shows and most memorably, pulling dresses for the Oprah Winfrey Show. As Director of Fashion & Beauty for a Manhattan-based agency, she connected clients with trendsetters and brand ambassadors, coordinated media tours with indie artists, styled photo shoots, and developed hot lists for industry insiders.

While scouring the streets for trendsetters and buzz-worthy boutiques for a trend forecasting company after her move to North Carolina, she realized her niche, launched her column, and began developing the “Style Girl” brand.

Whether she is styling actress Elizabeth Mitchell (Lost) for a cover shoot, editing a client’s closet, or offering brand consulting, Jess strives to cultivate the greater creative community in her adopted home. Style Girl LLC also produces highly-anticipated Fashion Preview events, Style Swaps, and vintage styled-based events (Mad Men, Great Gatsby Gala) which have become something of a cultural touchstone in the Southeast, leaving an imprint both on and off the runway.

A vintage-loving gal with a penchant for everything deco, Jess shares closet space in her Wilmington, NC home with her best friend and husband Joel (writer/mixologist) and her most cherished accessory, their beautiful dog Dakota.

Shop Jess’s curated vintage collection - Style Girl Vintage - at the SGV showroom at 21 Market Street (2nd floor) where the Wilmington High Street tours begin & end.
